"When I came in everything and everyone was new to me," Jeff Cole said. "I didn't know anyone, and I had no ties to Norwalk in general. That all meant I obviously didn't know any of the teachers, coaches, or the kids. There is an adjustment period for everyone involved. This year that is not the case anymore since they know me and I know them. Everyone knows what is going on, they know the system, and they know my expectations." That isn't to say there weren't some bumps along the road. "I couldn't even fill out paperwork last year without help," he said. "Little things like that have an impact on you. The one thing I look forward to this year is I feel more comfortable because not everything is new anymore. I feel like that breaking in period has all gone by. It's better for everyone to have gotten through that." Despite the 2-8 first season in 2005 with many young players getting their first action of varsity football, Cole is excited about the town, school, and situation he's found himself in. "It's a beautiful community," he said. "I like the school because it offers many opportunities that a lot of districts don't have right now. "Everything gets done right, starting with academics. I appreciate that as someone living and working in the district that they take care of business and they do things right. It's a good feeling, and an even better feeling to be a part of it." |
